A Brighter Future at Lighthouse Primary School

Nestled between the majestic Rwenzori Mountains and the shimmering waters of Lake George,

Lighthouse Primary School and Home for Children is just a short drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park. This stunning location draws tourists from around the world—many pausing for a photo at the equator or catching the unforgettable sight of elephants roaming along the roadside. For our students, these moments are even more extraordinary. Most children in Uganda have never seen elephants in the wild, so when an elephant passes by, classes pause, and the children rush to the security fence for a once-in-a-lifetime “field trip.”

In just a few short months, Lighthouse has grown from 100 to 138 students—and we are thrilled to share that every single one now has a sponsor! Thanks to the generosity of Daystar Church in Cullman, Alabama, we have also begun Phase 3 of construction. This expansion includes new dormitories, making it possible to welcome 150 more vulnerable children from the Kasese region into a safe and high-quality learning environment.

Our commitment to excellence extends beyond facilities. Teachers, administrators, and finance staff are receiving formal training, ensuring our students get the best education possible. Every Sunday morning, the school chaplain leads worship, nurturing students’ spiritual growth. Sponsors have also stepped up in heartfelt ways—sending gifts such as Bibles, clothing, school supplies, storage trunks, and even new shoes, which will be delivered next term since each child has already been  personally measured.

At ONE30, we believe no child should have to worry about their next meal, clean water, or safe shelter. At Lighthouse, these needs are being met so children can focus on learning, playing, and dreaming about the future. But while we celebrate these milestones, we know the journey is far from over.

To sustain this progress and meet the needs of our growing school, we are currently seeking support for:

  • Chicken House with 500 laying hens – daily protein for healthy development ($4,000)
  • Outdoor shade structures – relief from heat on the open school grounds ($5,000)
  • Water filtration system – current well water is too salty for drinking ($6,000)
  • Completion of temporary classroom building ($13,000)
  • Remaining Phase 3 construction funds – ($289,000)
  • 200 beds for boys’ and girls’ dormitories ($15,000)
  • Curriculum – five subjects for 10 classes ($10,000)
  • Mattresses and bedding for 200 beds ($9,000)
  • 200 desks ($7,000)
  • Computers and office supplies ($5,000)
  • Mosquito nets ($2,000)
  • Shipping container costs ($8,000)

The list may seem long, but together, we can transform not only this school but the entire community. Every gift—large or small—helps build a legacy of generosity and hope for generations to come.
