From Tiny Chicks to Brighter Futures

Recently, Lighthouse Primary welcomed 250 new chicks to our growing agriculture program. While they may be tiny today, these chicks represent something incredibly important: nutrition, health, and hope for every child at the school.

Once these chickens begin laying eggs, they will provide enough eggs for each child to receive one egg every day. For many of our students, this will be one of the most consistent sources of protein and essential vitamins they receive.

A single egg may not seem like much, but for a growing child, it can mean:

  • Improved concentration in the classroom
  • Stronger immune systems
  • Better physical development
  • Increased energy for learning and play

When a child no longer has to worry about basic nutritional needs, they can focus on what every child deserves—the opportunity to learn, dream, and build a brighter future.

A Labor Of Love

Raising these chicks has not been easy. Right now, our dedicated staff is taking shifts throughout the night to ensure the chicks are eating regularly, staying warm, and growing strong. Their commitment goes far beyond normal working hours because they understand what these chickens will mean for the children they serve.

But there is another challenge.
King cobras are a very real threat in this region of Uganda. These dangerous snakes are attracted to the chicks and can quickly devastate a flock if given the opportunity. In fact, we recently received a photo from the team of a young king cobra near the chicken project.

While the image was a stark reminder of the challenges our staff face, it also demonstrated their vigilance and determination to protect this investment. Every chick matters because every chick represents future nutrition for a child.

One of the overseers who has worked night after night to ensure the chick remain safe and awake reported,

“We have been enjoying the church overnights but this week its declared chicken overnight… We need a drumist to always ‘cling it’ and awake out beloved chicks!”

More Than Chickens

What excites us most is that this project is about much more than eggs. It is about creating sustainable solutions that help meet the daily needs of vulnerable children. It is about ensuring students have the nourishment they need to thrive physically, academically, and spiritually. Most importantly, it is another example of how your generosity continues to change lives.

Because of supporters like you, children at Lighthouse Primary are receiving not only an education, but also practical care that helps them grow into healthy, confident leaders for the next generation.

Thank you for standing with these children. Thank you for investing in projects that create long-term impact and thank you for helping ensure that every child at Lighthouse Primary is known, loved, and cared for.

As these 250 chicks grow, we look forward to sharing updates with you and celebrating the day the first eggs are collected and served to the children.

Together, we are giving one more child a chance.
